Sand to Soil Services

The primary focus of Sand to Soil Services is transitioning conventional citrus and fruit production systems to more regenerative growing processes by adopting strategies to support soil and plant health. Sand to Soil Services provides soil and plant testing, consulting, and quality products such as Provide and Revive via Regenerative Land Solutions, to the citrus industry.

Sand to Soil Solutions was started by Brad Turner, a fourth generation Florida citrus grower with over 40 years of “hands in the dirt” experience. He has worked in the citrus industry as a commercial grower, production manager, caretaker, and nursery owner in addition to managing cow-calf operations and hay cultivation. Like most in the industry, he focused on synthetic fertilizers, fungicides, insecticides and herbicides as the only management tools needed for citrus.

On February 28, 2017 while standing in a citrus grove that was struggling to survive under the conventional citrus growing model, he looked at a neighboring native forest full of beautiful, healthy citrus trees. He’d seen those trees in the oak hammocks his entire life but had never given them much thought until that day. It was then he started thinking about the soil.

Since that day, Brad has devoted his life to a better understanding of soil. This includes soil biology, chemistry, and physics and how they relate to soil health, plant health and — more specifically — plant nutrition. All of those sciences seemed complex for an old school citrus grower, and so the journey included attending numerous soil health and plant nutrition conferences throughout the United States to deepen his understanding of these complex topics. At these conferences he was introduced to educators, consultants, researchers, managers, and growers from across the country and around the world who focus on soil and plant health. In these travels, Brad had the good fortune to tour farms in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, meeting with regenerative, no till farmers who are successfully implementing these concepts on their farms. We look forward to helping him expand his reach and make the transition easier for his clients.
